Flawless Saturday Question

What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself?

We all have those times when we just need to get away, whether it’s for an hour or a weekend.  Last week I was lucky enough to spend two hours at a spa for a massage and a cat nap. That was pretty dang great. But on a daily, more realistic basis, I tend to steal a moment here and there to recharge.

Sometimes I’ll come home for a second (or third) cup of coffee after dropping G off to school. The ten minutes I take to sit, have some joe, and relax are often just the thing I need to start my official day.

I find lately that my most favorite “me-time” is when I take a half hour to exercise. Whether it’s running with our dog, Bogie or boxing and hula-hooping on Wii Fit, or doing Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred DVD… Taking that time for myself has become an almost imperative part of my day. Since I’ve been doing it, I’ve gotten more done during the day than I ever have before. It’s made me far mor productive, less tired, and a lot more motivated to get things done. I’m even waking up more refreshed.

I never thought I’d be one of those people who “need” to exercise, but I am now. And the gift of giving myself that time, and all that extra energy, has been priceless.

And one more favorite way I have to take a little time to pamper myself is something I used to do ALL the time, but now it’s very rare: take myself out to lunch. It’s such a luxury to sit with a book or  magazine, order what you want, sip some tea or coffee and eat. And breathe. I’d like to do it a little more often, but I’ll take it when I can get it.

So.. What is your favorite and most effective way to recharge your batteries? (You might be giving others a great idea, so please share!!!!)

I AM THANKFUL

7 Comments Personal Crap

Well, it’s not original but I thought I should do a post about what I’m thankful for. This morning was surprisingly difficult. I missed my dad a lot. Sadness washed over me and was almost impossible to shake off. This was our holiday. My dad loved Thanksgiving as much as I do. So much so that once, because he had been sick in November, we had a second Thanksgiving in March. God, I wish he was here.

Our table will have only five at it this year. But I am cooking all the same things, all the same amounts. I’m having Thanksgiving because we have so much to be thankful for.

I am Thankful for:

The “Mommy!” that wakes me up way too early every morning.

The man laying beside me when I get up way too early.

The coffee that helps me wake up, when I get up way too early.

The son who exceeds all of my dreams of having a child, and challenges me in ways I never thought I could meet.

The marriage that sustains me, makes me believe in love, and challenges me in ways I never thought I could meet.

The fairly-functional family who is partially broken, but mostly intact, which made me who I am… Good and bad. And is accepting of the way I change.

The beautiful, funny woman who co-raised me, is trying to get on with life, and taking painful steps to do so.

The amazing woman who raised my husband and did a most excellent job of it.

The incredible woman who married my brother, and became my true sister.

The wonderful children, our nieces and nephews, who we don’t see enough of.

The dog who greets me, tail wagging, every morning… Way too early.

The friends I have made, old and new. And some old AND new. They are amazing, loving, beautiful friends, and I am blessed to know them.

The neighbors who keep a watch, and have saved us from many parking tickets.

The roof over my head and the walls that hold up this house.

The lessons I learn that help me grow.

The laughter that I am lucky enough to experience daily.

The tears that help me heal.

The food I get to eat, the wine I get to drink, the choices I get to make.

I am mostly thankful for health and happiness and the fact that I am always acutely aware of their fragility.

And I am thankful I get to write, and for those of you who read what I write.

I am thankful for this beautiful life.

I am thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Flawless Saturday Question

24 Comments Flawless Saturday Question

What’s your morning or evening routine? (Or both?) I’m kind of obsessed with finding out if everyone does the same thing every morning & evening like I do?

MORNING:

Wake up with the first “Mommy!” being called from the next room, around 6:45.

Put on my turquoise robe with white polka dots. (sexy!)

Play in son’s room for a bit.

Start coffee.

Make son breakfast.

Drink a cup.

Make my cereal: Kashi Go Lean & Cheerios with Stevia, frozen blueberries, and almond milk.

Play dinosaurs on the floor with son.

Unload dishwasher.

Get son and myself dressed. (Some mornings quick shower, some mornings shower after drop off)

Brush our teeth.

Say goodbye to Daddy.

Drive son to school.

Home for second cup of coffe, shower, put on makeup and start the day.

NIGHT:

Put son to bed somewhere between 8:00 and 9:00PM.

Wash face.

Clean kitchen.

Clean Living Room.

Check emails, tweets, comments, etc.

Get a bowl of cereal (same as from morning)

Watch something on TiVo.

Brush and floss + ProActiv routine (I’ve used it for about 12 years)

Make morning coffee so I only have to turn in on when I wake up.

Get a glass of water.

Tip toe into Garrett’s room to see his lovely, sleeping face.

Bed between 10:30 and midnight.

Crossword puzzles for 15 minutes.

Sleep

Those are some EXCITING routines, no? No. What’s YOUR routine?
